Sony Ericsson to update 2011 Xperia range to Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Google has kept a closed lid on what exactly we should be expecting for the next major Android iteration dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). It is believed that ICS will marry both the smartphone and tablet UIs, but apart from that little is known. Just yesterday Google’s Eric Schmidt inadvertently leaked the release date of ICS as October/November during an interview, so hopefully further details will be forthcoming shortly.
One of the greatest concerns about the android operating system has been the fragmentation especially when it comes to the hardware manufacturers. Sonyericsson has been such a victim in the past one year since it customizes the core OS with its layers which has made updates to take longer and longer. If you ever owned Xperia 10, 8 and all the Xperia mini range then you can a taste to this. I have always been envious of my HTC and Motorola cell phone owners for they get the latest software updates but have always consoled myself that they do not get the Sonyericsson experience.
I am sure this is definitely going to pass because for  it’s good to know that Sony Ericsson confirmed to SoMobile that owners of the 2011 Xperia range will be getting this update at some point in the future (no timeline was specified). To keep us going in the mean time, Sony Ericsson will also be releasing the Android 2.3.4 update in October that will bring video Gtalk, a 3D panorama feature and further enhancements to Facebook inside Xperia.
