Android rules the EISA 2013

The European Imaging and Sound Association or EISA announced its yearly (2013-2014) awards for excellence in seven categories, one being Mobile Devices, and in that category the Android community of devices grabbed four out of the possible six awards.

The EISA started back in 1982 when five editor-in-chiefs from European photo magazines got together and voted…it has now grown to 50 special interest magazines from 20 European countries that vote each June for the best products featured in their magazines.

The HTC One grabbed the spot for the Advanced Smartphone that everyone else will strive to beat.  They like its aluminum body, 4.7-inch Full HD display, quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and the 32GB or 64GB internal memory.  They also liked the unique “experience” offered by HTC’s User Interface (UI) Sense, singling out “BlinkFeed” and its stream of instant updating.  Also of note was the 4MP camera with UltraPixel giving the camera improved light sensitivity and Optical Image Stablization (OIS).  They were also impressed with the dual, front-firing stereo speakers and Dr. Dre’s Beats Audio.

The Huawei Ascend P6 took the honors in the Consumer Smartphone category as “slim and beautiful,” being only 6.18mm thick and only weighing in at 120 grams.  They liked the all glass front, 4.7-inch 1280×720 resolution display that can be used while wearing gloves.  It has a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, coupled with an 8MP camera with autofocus and a 5MP Front Facing Camera (FFC) for taking self-portraits.  They also praised Huawei’s UI called “Emotion UI” which offers panoramic shooting and facial-recognition.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Mini took top spot in the Social Media Phone category, because “small is beautiful” and they loved that it felt like a well-built phone, fully equipped, yet affordable.  It easily fits in your hand or pocket yet is packed with technology – with its 1.7GHz dual-core processor, its bright 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, and 8MP camera.  With its social media apps on-board, you can always stay in touch with friends and family.

Winning the European Tablet category was the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, one of the thinnest, yet ruggedly constructed tablets on the market, including Sony’s water and dust resistance feature.  It boosts a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 10.1-inch display with 1920×1200 resolution with a MicroSD slot to further its 16GB or 32GB Internal Memory.  There are two cameras and the rear-mounted one is 8.1MP that can record Full HD video.

Rounding out the top Mobile categories, the European Mobile Headphone award went to the JVC HA-FXZ200 ear buds and in the European Mobile Audio System they selected the Harman Kardon Onyx portable speaker.
