MedAfrica

In my effort to sample and review Kenyan apps on the Android platform, I have been able to come across very impressive apps as well apps that have the potential to make it only that they haven’t had that required exposure. Then again I have also been able to come across well done apps that have left me with no option but write nothing but a good review. That doesent mean that I have not been able to come across wanting apps only that I do not bother about those…
This time round, I am going to review an application that emerged tops in the Ericsson Application Awards 2012. MedAfrica by Shimba Technologies. Their app helps disseminate health care information and services to users in Africa which will help to improve health care in rural areas. The jury had this to say about their app: “For the potential to bring important information to broad groups of people, and give them the power of knowledge to take better care of their communities. A simple application and service that can be immediately used.”
I do agree with the jury and sure this app does what it is meant to be doing with its easy to use interface as well as a variety of cases that it addresses. I have it running on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo for the past two weeks and it has functioned well every time I tried to figure it out.
This app has a very good rating on Google play with an average 5.0 out of 5 and that means it is worth a download. It has seen a sharp rise in downloads since its launch. The current version of 1.23 is free and the 755K size is good enough for your memory. The Android 1.6 and above requirement makes it suitable for the masses with low end smartphones in the rural areas.
Take a look at screen shots below for my review.
