Kenyan Apps on Anrdroid: Hosii
Hosii is a Location-based app to navigate health facilities
in Kenya. Wherever you are geographically, choose radius and click search to
load health facilities within your vicinity of 3 miles.
If GPS is not enabled, the app will work, though with a Coarse Location so long as there is Mobile Phone Network signal. It can be off your real location by 100 meters, though.
Fine
Location is achieved if GPS is enabled. GPS uses satellites over the sky, hence
you should be outdoors or near the window for a few minutes till the Dish-like
GPS icon stops blinking (i.e Location has already been acquired).
Coarse
Location or Fine Location? The choice is yours. A trade-off between accuracy,
speed and comfort!
This application is so relevant to the
Kenyan market in that at times you find yourself with an emergence and you just
cannot find the nearest hospital. I have been testing it on my Sony Ericsson
Xperia Neo and it works perfectly. It is a very light application and that
makes it ideal for me since I am running out of phone memory for any more
applications downloads. Being a location based application and assuming that it
might come in handy during emergence times, I would appreciate if future updates
introduced direction, contacts (i.e text the facility details of condition or
call), opening hours or even availability of emergence units. how about the ability to check on either facebook or any other social platform...
It is a new application on the Google
Play and I hope with proper promotion and marketing, this should be a must have
application for everyone with an android phone for you never know when you
might just need that service.
