The Xperia S will launch with a 720 x 1280 pixel 4.3-inch
TFT RGB display, giving it a PPI of 342 (higher than the retina display
of the iPhone 4/4S). However, if you’re wondering how it fares compared
to Samsung’s HD monsters, the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note then read
on.
The Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch (720 x 1280) Super AMOLED Pentile
display, whilst the Galaxy Note has a 5.3-inch (800 x 1280) Super AMOLED
Pentile display. The obvious advantages of the AMOLED display is the
amazing contrast levels, which can be seen in the comparison pictures
below. Quite frankly, the Xperia S doesn’t come close in terms of
contrast. The Samsung handsets also appear to have the edge when it
comes to viewing angles. The Xperia S has a more natural colour compared
to the Samsung models, which tends towards blue-ish tones to our eyes.
It’s worth noting that the pictures don’t compare how nicely text
should be rendered on the Xperia S given that it has a RBG display with
higher pixel density.
