The Mobile World Congress starts this Sunday of Feb 26th

It is that time of the year again, when all mobile manufacturers except for Apple converge in Barcelona for annual Mobile World Congress. This is the vent where a majority of the mobile and hardware manufacturers get to showcase there latest innovations. We all realize that the mobile telecommunication industry has has grown quit rapidly. Gone are the days when a blue screen phone was fancy or just having a Nokia 3310 was enough to earn you a well off status. I remember it like it was yesterday, the reverse call, the pager, the expensive sim cards  that many people had and one one or few may phones that were kept open for sim swap. The showing off of mobile gadgets by strapping them on your belt or asking for an extra glass in a pub to put in your Nokia! Then there came the polyphonic phone, color screen and the camera phone but that was not all. The birth of Sony Ericsson saw the emergence of phones with touch interfaces that utilized a stylus not forgetting Blackberry was the leader in the business communication sector. The emergence of 3G promised the rapid transformation of the way things used to be. Sony Ericsson was the leading mobile entertainment phone manufacture till the arrival of iPhone from Apple and things will never be the same again... Anyways this is not meant to be a history class but if you above 25 then you might just know what am talking about.
Now its all about the operating system, processing speed and Camera power the phones getting faster than your parents first PC. This MWC is has been dubbed the quadcore event and the push is coming from Google's Android platform. Samsung and LG just launched a Phablet (phone tablet hi-breed) complete with a stylus and makes me wonder, could this be the return of the stylus and bigger phones? I am looking forward to faster phones and tablets as well as newer data transfer technologies from the like of Sony as well as the further integration of NFC in other devices complete with much hardware integration.   In the recent past we have seen Apple's  number one position in the smart phone category faced with a lot of competition from Samsung who seems to be going to any lengths just to have the biggest pie. Nokia still remains the biggest manufacturer and that seems not to stop any time soon. The era of Sony Ericsson has come to an end just after 10 years in the industry we now have Sony Mobile after Sony bought the Ericsson stake out in the partnership early this year. HTC has not been doing well in the recent past as well and this event is going to reveal what they have planned for the future in order to maximize the shareholders value...
I am writing this article as an African blogger and hence my interest in the MWC 2012 will be all about they have for the emerging markets. The likes of Samsung are already here and they are doing a brilliant job in making themselves heard. The biggest challenge will the technology transfer because we all want the best just like your consumers in the European, American and the Asian market. All you gotta do is to find away to make it happen.
For starters I will be following a majority of the manufacturers and exhibitors at my best and will let you know what I think about the products being announced and much more. Free free to share with with me as well. There will be press conferences on the first day from:

  • Sony Mobile: Sunday, February 26th — 8:00 PM (6:00 p.m. local time in Barcelona)
  • HTC: Sunday, February 26th — 5:30 pm (8:30 p.m. local time in Barcelona)
  • Nokia: Monday, February 27th — 10:30 am (8:30 a.m. local time in Barcelona)

As usual we expect the main players in the country to be present with the likes of CCK, Safaricom, Airtel and the rest of the communication industry players with an interest in mobile telecommunication. Lets hope the mainstream media will also be able to bring us the latest news and awards.
