Digital TV

I bet we all have heard of the submarine fibre optic cable that was over hyped of the benefits to Kenyan Mass. How come the media has not taken any step in making sure that the project is successful? Just like the submarine fibre optic cable project the digital terrestrial TV transmition has suffered the same fate. When was the last time we heard of it in the news. The government and to be precise the CCK has not done a lot o enlighten the masses of what this is. No promotions no tax rebates no nothing… If any then it’s been discriminatively done. I mean how many of us watch KBC? How does the government aim to have this in place by 2015 if a lot is not being done to make sure that even the trial takes off with enough momentum. I know this coz I am Kenyan and I know how we do ones anything is out of the picture, we clutter it with the many scandals that we have and move on to come back to it for blame and reference to our failures. Can the CCK dedicate even a week to demonstrate to the masses on how the set top box works. Take it to the people for ones.
I am meant to understand the type of the set top box to be used is supposed to be MPEG4 but its not funny to find MPEG2 set top boxes being sold in our shops. They may not be such a bother now but what will happen when a pay TV comes into the market and intents to transmit with the set format (MPEG4). I imagine how much clutter you will end up with in the house to be un imaginable given that there are other set top boxes that have been introduced in the market. Speaking of a new entrant into the pay TV market in Kenya, how many of you have heard of Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB)?. Well I hear they will be rolling out a pay TV service in the country in the near future based on the digital TV transmition platform. It is said to be a mass market pay TV kind of thing. I am sure this is very advantageous compared to dish which requires a lot of investment on your side to as much Ksh30,000.
The use of a regular MPEG4 set top box means that one can still have the box and have access to free to air channels when not in need of subscribed channels unlike the dish where everything is scrambled when you fail to pay your monthly fee. I just can’t wait to see what they have in store, oh boy oh boy I hope they have Disney, ESPN, National geo, Discovery, MTV, Rugby, MTV and good global radio channels. Remember this is a mass pay TV so the cost will be fare enough and one shall be able to pay for he or she wants and not what the provider wants to force down on you.
My peeps, what do you think the future holds for such a pay TV service in the market. Forget about the GTV or DSTV. This is a totally different thing, crystal clear both in picture, sound and package quality I hope that is fairly priced for the mass.
