HOW COME ALWAYS THE LATS ONES

if you have been longing for technology quality (service and product) for a while or just interested in progress when it comes to service, then you will agree with me on this one.
Kenya is a good country but we a times feel like this is the place where a corporation charge as much as likes without an explanation to the consumers. take for example Safaricom, they are the market leaders in the telephony industry but they see no need to satisfy they customers if they are not going to benefit. This predatory, we need cheaper calls, cheaper internet access and affordable products in order for this country to advance.
Another case is the internet service provision, before the submarine fibre optic cables landed, a euphoria was created and the masses were meant to believe our prayers had been heard. i envisioned Kenyans gaming online, IPTV, supersonic internet at an affordable rate and a well regulated environment. What has the CCK got to show? The government has all the resource to make the private sector act up.But it all has remained just but a promise. I would dare anyone to show me any internet service provider that keeps its promise of quality.
The same thing happens when it comes to digital TV. Just after the launch, the opportunistic Kenyans had brought in set top boxes to cash in on early adopters but the pricing wasn't right. The government decided to subsidize the cost but we are yet to any change in price and quality coz a good box will still set you back as much as Kshs 8000 and its not even branded.
The same thing arises when it comes to our one and only pay TV service provider. The programming is wanting apart from sports and news channels. since the exit of GTV, they have become sloppy coz of the lack of competition and consumer protection in this country. Why should we come last when it comes to the introduction of HDTV? As far as am concerned as a customer, it has always been said that i am the King even if I am a peasant King.
My wish is that I wish we had a more concerned consumer protection group in the country. I want to see good competition where its all about skill and not corporate sabotage like what is happening to Telekom Kenya or the constant cable vandalization around the country. How about improved call quality, introduction of better packages, listening to the consumer need and even better after sales service. look a India and you will see what am talking about. Its a shame to see all this submarine cable capacity go to waste just coz some manager that never looked into the future wants to recoup his investment before letting us reap the benefits.
Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think about our industry, to we really compare to anyone? This are just but a few of my concerns...

  3. Hey I have got some views of my own that will be highlighted later on with regard to the competition between these ISPs. I tend to believe that alot of sabbotage is ruining the reputation of many of them.

  4. i'd like to point out that you first need a reputation so that someone can ruin it. But these guys have nothin to loose in the first place. there are ISPs who are still giving their client 128kbps links, whats up with that???amd the prices they charge for it is even more interesting. as far as i kno these guys are still living in ancient times, they have so much bandwidth which no one is using and they are still paying for it but they still give their client shared connections. there is one ISP i kno who's giving 1mbps line at a reasonable price... but the share ratio is 1:40... there is something very wrong goin on here...

cheers steve... keep up the good work..

  5. How do we as consumers let them know that we fed up? Its funny that guys have already begun jail-breaking 3G modems and this guys cant see whats wrong.
We are very likely as a society to be turned into hackers just to get what they cannot give us.
